1. I just started working for an APS Program, can I apply for the NAPSA Training Certificate?

Yes, you can. However, you will need two years of direct APS experience to obtain the Certificate. You will need to pay the application fee, unless your program has already arranged to pay for your certificate process; if so, they will apply for you. In order to qualify for the Certificate, you will need to complete the required NAPSA Training Modules by either taking the trainings in-person, or taking and passing the e-learning for that particular module. Be sure to check with your program before applying, as they may have applied for you or plan to do so.

2. What documentation is necessary for me to show that I have completed one or more of the NAPSA Modules?

NAPSA Module completions should be submitted individually, in groups, or all at once when all training requirements have been met. The applicant must complete the Application for the Certificate Program and pay the application fee for NAPSA to begin collecting documentation of their completions. Please be sure to check with your APS program to make sure they have not already applied for you before you apply and pay the fee. Credit for NAPSA Training Module completions can be given whether the completion was at an in-person training, through an e-learning, or by passing the “test-out” questions for a given module (see FAQ on “test-out”). Applicants are responsible for retaining copies of their completions in addition to submitting them.

3. I’m not an APS Professional, but am considering applying; can I take the NAPSA training courses?

Yes, you can. However, you cannot obtain the NAPSA Training Certificate unless you have worked as an APS Professional for two years full-time, or four years part-time.

4. I completed some of these NAPSA trainings prior to applying for the NAPSA Training Certificate; can I get credit for those trainings that will count toward achieving my Certificate?

NAPSA Training Certificate applicants may request training credit for NAPSA Modules successfully completed up to two years prior to their date of application to the NAPSA Certificate Program. To obtain this credit, complete the Credit for NAPSA Module Taken Previously form for each previously completed training module, and send it/them to the NAPSA Certificate Coordinator at: certificate@napsa.now.org. The “Credit for NAPSA Module Taken Previously” form is available on the NAPSA Certificate Program Web Pages.

5. What if I complete all of the modules required, but have not been an APS Worker for two years yet? Can I get my Certificate early?

No, After you complete the required modules, you will receive a notification email congratulating you on completion of the modules and reminding you that NAPSA must be notified when you have been an APS Professional for at least two years. When this verification has been received, signed off by your organization’s administration, you will be awarded the NAPSA Training Certificate.

6. How long from the time of the application do I have to complete the NAPSA Certificate Training required?

After your application has been accepted and the application fee paid, you have two years from the date of application to complete the required training modules.

7. How much does application to the NAPSA Certificate Program cost?

For individuals, the application fee to apply for the NAPSA Training Certificate Program is $50. Programs or large groups of applicants may be eligible for reduced pricing. Please contact the NAPSA Certificate Coordinator to ask about these rates.

8. How much will the Certificate cost me to complete?

Once all documentation is submitted and the applications is approved, there is a $50 fee to issue the certificate (total individual cost of $100). Please note – e-learning modules of the Core Competencies do have fees associated with them to complete the courses.

9. What if my APS program would like to offer certificates to all of our staff?

Groups of applications are welcomed, and may be offered for reduced rates. The program is responsible for tracking and providing all of the documentation necessary for their applicants to complete the Certificate program. The APS program will supply all of the training records to NAPSA, pay the fees, and receives certificates for all completions.

10. After I apply, do I need to send in proof of my training module completions after each module I complete?

Applicants are responsible for retaining documentation of each training module they have completed. Proof of completions are sent in when all training modules are completed.

11. Do experienced APS professionals who have completed all of the NAPSA Modules, or have equivalent training, need to take the NAPSA Modules?

Experienced workers who have taken training in the past have two options:

1. APS professionals who have taken NAPSA training within the two years prior to applying to the NAPSA Training Certificate Program may complete the application form “Credit for NAPSA Module Taken Previously” to receive credit for these completed modules.

2. Experienced APS professionals who have been employed with their programs for at least five years and have completed NAPSA (or equivalent) training more than two years prior to applying to the Certificate Program, may request that their supervisors verify their status and employment and apply to be granted access to “test-out” questions for each module. In order to obtain credit or completion of the modules in this fashion, all module “test-outs” must be completed with a score of at least 80%. To obtain access to this “test-out” option, contact the NAPSA Certificate Coordinator.
